ABOUT THE EVENT
SHOWCASING AFRICAN ATHLETICS ON SA SOIL
Taking place for the first time, the Simbine Classic track and field meeting not only provides African athletes an opportunity to compete against the world’s best on home soil but will also promote African athletics on the global stage.
Hosted by three-time Olympic 100m finalist Akani Simbine, the meeting will be held at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria, giving elite stars from around the globe a chance to experience the hospitality and world-class facilities of South Africa’s capital city.
The event will be the first World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting to be held in South Africa, and it promises to be a memorable night of athletics, with thrilling battles expected across a range of disciplines witnessed by a packed crowd at the historic Pilditch Stadium which can cater for more than 20 000 spectators.
Fans in attendance, and those watching live at home, will be spoiled for choice with a programme that includes sprinting, middle-distance, hurdling, jumping, throwing and relay events.
In the build-up to the main programme, there will also be competitions for children up to the age of 15, as well as a range of contests to be held for local elite athletes in the national pre-programme.
